Over the past several months – while “the Blog” and your editor were disabled with computer problems – a rash of sad news came to our attention. In the event you have not heard, two of our classmates, as well as the spouses of two classmates, have passed away.
*Joe LaBazzo,a member of CHS Class of ’56 and husband of our classmate, Chris Sufchinsky, died on November 16 2010.
Joe fought a valiant battle with bladder cancer for more than a year. According to Chris, he was a real “trooper” throughout the chemo, radiation and surgery but the disease proved too aggressive to beat. Chris continues to live Ohio and does volunteer work several days at a Cincinnati “soup kitchen.”. She and Joe had 4 children who gave them 11 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren (Wow!). Chris also told me that her mother, Betty, is still going strong at age 96 and lives nearby in Assisted Living. Many of you may remember Mrs Sufchinsky as a home economics teacher back in the 50's in Carteret public schools.

*Ed Mazlankowski, husband of our classmate, Helen Lesky, passed away on January 12, 2012. An ex-Marine, Ed was a mechanical engineer who worked most of his career at Bell Labs. He and Helen resided in Piscataway for the past 48 years and had 2 children and 4 grandchildren. His obituary can be found at the following link:

*Roger Dunster, our CHS ’57 classmate passed away on December 27, 2011 in Bandon, Oregon, where he has resided for the past 8 years. Roger was a career Air Force veteran, enlisting shortly after graduating CHS. He retired in 1979. He leaves a wife, 2 children and 4 grandchildren. *Beverly VanDuerson (Czya), our CHS ’57 classmate, passed away on February 13, 2012, at the Hunderton Care Center in Flemington, NJ. Bev had been previously living in Clearwater, Florida after retiring from a long career as a secretary. She leaves one daughter and two grandchildren.
